This is a good no-current dive when the tides are still running inside the heads. It is also a great second dive after the subs or other deep wrecks. Castle rock is one large mushroom shaped Bommie in 18 meters requiring the whole dive to circumnavigate thoroughly. The top rises to 12 meters and is covered with kelp and ascidians while the sides are undercut and host most of the action. Castle rock is one of the best reef dives outside Port Phillip Heads.
Depth 12 - 18 meters, Rating: All levels
Expect to see: I have seen big black bull rays ascend and approach the dive boat, schooling boarfish, old wives cleaning dusky morwong, weedy sea dragons and schools of banded silver sweeps mixed together.
