Shortland Bluff

Shortland Bluff (OW, SL) Depth 14-21m (45-70ft)

The area off Shortland Bluff provides numerous dive sites such as Torpedo Reef, Albatross Wall, Shortland Bluff, Bommies, Three Trees and Big Bommie. The area is literally littered with old bottles, old anchors, swim throughs, along walls and large Bommies. Beautiful growths of zoanthids, soft corals, sponges, crayfish, Blue Devils and more.

Shortland Bluff is a very extensive area just out from Queenscliff Lighthouse. It tends to be dived as a drift dive for the chance of old bottles in the torpedo reef area. Torpedo bottles, shaped like a football with a neck at one end, were commonly found by divers willing to scoop down in front of their buddies on a drift rope. Don't overlook this area for a slack water dive. When drifting in a 2 to 3 knot current we have often wished we could mark certain parts of a dive and later return on the slack water. Ledge after ledge passes underneath, sheltering hundreds of fish from the current.

Depth Rope depth usually around 12 - 18 meters  Rating: All Levels

Expect to see:  Rock Cod, morwong, wrasses and other fishes such as barber perch, banded sweeps and short fin  pike under the ledges.
